James. [ The first she's used his name, but her voice is weary and somewhat, even to one that does not know her well, strained. ] I have- concerns.

What is wrong?

Is all well with the Chairman of your Order? The way he speaks...

It calls to mind Lambert, in the last months of the Spire. Not that his frustrations are quite so pointed but...it began much the same. Little things.

To be honest, I am not sure. This is ... very unlike him.

I was never acquainted with Seeker Lambert. Can you give me more details?

That is my concern . I do not know the man well but what I know of him- this does not seem like the man I spoke to in the past.

[ Sudden changes of heart or temperment? Are concerning. Doubly so in Templars. Much as she tries to hold her composure, that thread of fear yet coils in her voice. ]

None of us knew Lord Seeker Lambert, he held himself apart, but his voice did carry. Before mages began to go missing and all the strangeness began he became more terse, more zealous. 'This is the Maker's will, nothing more-'

One of the mages at Andoral's reach told me he said something like that, during the slaughter. I do not think that such a thing will come to pass here but-

James, I am afraid for my students. I am afraid for the other mages. If something like this has him out of sorts so quickly- something else is at work here. We ignored it in the Spire for we had no voice and no course but to endure. We had no one that we could trust to which we might take our fears.

I am thinking something happened - someone said something to him and it hit him at the core of his faith.

[He sighs, rubbing his face. He can hear the thread of fear in her voice.]

Something like that cannot take place here. [Else it would tear them all apart. He rubbed his chin briefly.]

Do you think he's been compromised? Possibly being influenced by outside sources?

I do not know, something may have happened in Emprise? I cannot say. But- Please be mindful? Speak to him. Before this becomes worse.

Of course I will. I do not want any of you to be afraid for your safety, or those of the young ones. I have left a note with the mage council, but please let them know I will get to the bottom of this.

[fleurdesel]

Thank you. [ Actual, relieved gratitude in her voice, now. She'd been uncertain if this was worth worrying over- but knew without the shadow of a doubt that bringing it to James was the right thing to do. ]

I believe he's just lost his temper. I'll see to him and make sure to settle everything with everyone. [And from the look of the crystals -- that was in fact going to be everyone.]

[Now that ... makes him pause. There's a moment of silence, before he states calmly.] Adelaide, do you think he needs to be kept to just his own men while we sort his issues?

[He needs to know how scared people truly are of Alayre's ranting.]

Perhaps it is nothing- perhaps it is something- I only know that this feels familiar in a frightening way and I trust your judgement.

I will speak to him first, and then make my judgement. [One should never condemn without evidence. Perhaps Alayre simply needed ... a break. Maker knows they could all use one after Emprise du Lion.]

Whatever you think best. You know him better than I- how out of character this is was what worried me.

I understand. We all have our triggers, unfortunately Alayre's is very close to his faith. Mine is blood mages. If he feels he cannot currently take care of his duties -- then I will ... well I won't be happy as I hate politics, but I'll stand in regardless.

Welcome to my life since the formation of the Council. [ There is a crackle of laughter on her end, weak but present. ] I would not say the tone of this announcement is mine but- it all felt very familiar.

[A faintly dry smirk on his end, before there's the sound of his hand scrapping down his face.] Then we have a problem.

One I trust you will handle with all due consideration. [ James is a little frustrating like that, the being considerate. ]

I promise you, Adelaide, it will e taken care of immediately. [He can promise that, at least.]

Please inform the Mage Council that I will be standing in for Knight Commander Alayre as your standing representative with the New Templar Order, and all questions, concerns, and requests should come through my desk.

[fleurdesel]

[ There's a rustling of fabric and a slosh of liquid in a bottle- wine most likely as she shifts where she's settled. ]

They will be duly informed.

[Exhausted as he is, he manages a tired smirk that comes through his voice.]
